Everyone has experienced some form of trauma in their lives. Trauma causes structural changes in the brain involving a hyperactive amygdala (fear center) and a smaller hippocampus (memory center.) The result is a prolonged "fight-or-flight" state in the prefrontal cortex, the part involved in decision-making, problem solving and reasoning. This brain disruption and hyper stress response affects our neuroception and skews our perception.
Untreated trauma causes long-term fatigue, sleep disturbances, pain and cognitive issues. Untreated trauma often leads to substance abuse, self-harm and highly dysfunctional relationship patterns. It impacts physical, mental and cognitive health, often contributing to chronic conditions like PTSD, depression, anxiety, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders and more. The "trauma in our lives is not DNA" and therefore -- healing is possible!
All 3 parts of the brain are designed to work together creating neuroplasticity. This is the goal.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol & drug use problems, eating disorders, childhood trauma and severe mental illness. Numerous studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective, if not more effective than other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications.
We partner with the Trauma Healing Institute (THI) and various nonprofit ministries to provide healing groups, counseling and inner healing programs which address the root of heart wounds, hurts and trauma.
Our experiences impact how we feel but don't determine who we are.
There is hope to experience freedom from trauma. It takes God and a strong community of faith, hope and love to get through these dark times. We are committed to walking alongside your healing & restoration.
